Mr. Sakols has been teaching at El Portal School since 2001.
He began working in the district in 2000, first as a teacher at Yosemite
Park High School and later as a special education teacher at Mariposa
Middle School. Before
teaching in the classroom, Mr. Sakols worked as an environmental educator
and naturalist for Yosemite Institute.
Mr.
Sakols earned a BA in biology and geography from Sonoma State University
in 1990 and a MS in biology in 1998 from Idaho State University.
While in Idaho he worked toward his teaching credential and completed a
fire ecology study in Yellowstone National Park.
Mr. Sakols
favorite day of school is the first day of spring. The spring season keeps
his students busy exploring flowers, bugs, and birds.
When school is out Mr. Sakols enjoys
traveling, exploring Yosemite, and nature photography.
In the winter he cross
country and downhill skis while in the summer he spends time hiking
through the snow capped high country.
